Colorado is a western US state whose capital city is Denver; its Governor is Jared Polis. The estimated population of Colorado is 5,758,736 (2019). New Mexico in the south, Arizona in the southwest, Utah in the west, Wyoming in the north, Nebraska in the northeast, Kansas in the east, and Oklahoma in the southeast share borders with the state. Colorado is nicknamed the "Centennial State" because it became a state one century after the signing of the United States Declaration of Independence.
Colorado has a rich cultural heritage like dinosaurs’ fossils, ancestral dwellings in the cliffs and ghost villages dating from the conquest of the West. Colorado has diverse climate types: tundra, subarctic, continental, humid subtropical, semi-arid, and cold desert in the various regions of the state. Colorado is also one of the Mountain States.
The state is home to many Scots. Each year in mid-August, the Colorado Scottish Festival takes place; it includes traditional mountaineering games. The Highland Games are one of the oldest and most interesting national traditions.
